nothing to hear nothing to...1985

a hard to find and limited edition (500 numbered copies worldwide) release that was put out by the Taiwanese NOISE label. it is basically one LONG piece of feedback that was supposedly recorded in 1985, making it one of the earliest known recordings of the gerogerigegege. musicians listed include juntaro ("noise") and tohru maruyama ("bass"). the entire single track is one long rather inactive slab of feedback and some screaming. there are no really dynamic progressions anywhere throughout the entire recording, just a simple and continuous flow of harsh noise. sounds much more akin to the lo-fi guitar driven sounds of hijokaidan rather than the polished studio outings of masonna or merzbow. juntaro's screams and maniacal laughter make it through the mix along with some ear piercing guitar feedback, although it all sounds quite low, as the actual recording was not mastered at a very high level. there is some heavy rumbling and guitar drones throughout the duration of the song as well. there are small hints of melody that come up through the surface, possibly a heavily distorted piano. the entire track is almost 1 hour long. its definitely a decent example of the early japanese noise scene, although the same can be said about numerous other similar recordings from this era where the only distinguishable characteristic is the name of the band and nothing else. it is far from a waste of time, but it is definitely more for the gero collector. the cd comes packaged in a thin cardboard sleeve that is creased 3 ways and contains a folded piece of paper that has "noise action one" written on it along with a lot of taiwanese stuff. The gero logo is pressed on a smaller sheet of cardboard that holds the cd inside the packaging. It looks quite nice, although the absence of an actual cd case and the strange measurements (6 x 5 inches as opposed to the standard 4 x 5) make it a rather difficult and delicate item to store. The front artwork is the same exact picture that graces the hotel ultra cd, except the picture is not inverted. there are some pictures of guns printed on the sides as well.

put out in 1993 by NOISE taiwan.
